Free cycling bag rental service started!!!

Language: Chinese,Japanese

In Japan, the rainy season lasts from the beginning of June to mid-July.  Although It is horrible season for bicycle tour, we have to wait for a month.

Well, we launched free bag rental service for our guest as I wrote in the tittle.

We used to rental small bags so far, but we started to rental anew functional backpacks and body bag.

These bags are provided by beruf baggage!!

beruf baggage is the Japanese bag maker. From design to make, their processes are all in Japan.

Actually, We were provided 3 types of bags.

The first one is:

STROLL” BODYPACK SMALL

This is exactly the right size for pottering.

It can adjust the strap with one hand easily, and the shoulder strap is switchable so it can change the shoulder strap depend on the dominant hand.

The main compartment has roll top open system. This is impervious to water, so good for rain weather.

Though roll top has impervious to water, but it has to roll up every time. That’s very troublesome….

Don’t worry!  There is a waterproof zip for access the main compartment.

There are some organizer pocket inside the main compartment.

Silicone printed logo on the back. It can prevent skidding.

The color is black and navy.

The next one is:

“STROLL” BODYPACK MEDIUM

This bag is twice bigger than the bag above.

Its good size for day trip but it has same functions as small one. Of course its also very useful in riding situation. Even If you bought something in the tour, you can take them back in safe and easy. Please don’t miss the chance to buy some wonderful souvenir!

Anyway, my tall is about 170cm but its not too big, not too small. This bag is just big enough!

The color is black and navy as well.

The last one is:

“STROLL” BACKPACK

This back pack has also roll top open system. It is impervious to water as I told before, and It can boost the capacity when the luggage is increased. This is why roll top is so convenient function.

Of course it has also a waterproof zip for access the main compartment.

There is a PC sleeve in the main compartment, and also bottle pocket is on the side of the bag.

The chest strap is attached on the position which is no stress when you are in the riding position. The bag straps can be clipped to the bad itself so you don’t have to worry about them flapping around in the wind while you are riding.

There is also silicone printed logo on the back. It can prevent skidding.

The color is only black.

The outer fabric is  CORDURA®fabric EcoMade polyester, the inner fabric is PVC. These are fabrics that impervious to water.

I introduced 3 type of bags. How do you think about it?

I think their strong point is very functional but looks simple.

Would you like to go on the tour with these bags?

Please feel the Japanese craftsmanship!

Please tell me which bag you want to use when you make a reservation.

Reservation page is here.

With a view point of 100 cm from the ground, enjoy the refreshing, cool breeze of Tokyo that only a bicycle can give.

Source of a quote:TOKYO DAY OUT

I hear that bicycle tours in Tokyo are popular with overseas tourists. So, I joined the unique bicycle tour which allows us to enjoy Tokyos night view. The tour is called ‘’ILLUMINATION RIDE’’ and it is organized by CHARI YA TOKYO.

I headed for Asakusa leisurely to enjoy Tokyos city lights.  The tour started at 3:30pm. I looked forward to joining it so much!

CHARI YA TOKYO is based in Asakusa and was launched by Mr. Eguchi and Mr. Igarashi last year. Before launching CHARI YA TOKYO, they were used to organizing some cycling events together. Now, they organize some cycling tours for overseas tourists through CHARI YA TOKYO. Their tour is popular with overseas tourists.

Their tour provides guests with an understanding of Tokyo’s new culture as well as older culture by visiting different districts throughout the city, such as Asakusa. I think their style is so cool.

Well, let’s get back to talking about their ILLUMINATION RIDE. The tour starts from their office in Asakusa. I chose a bicycle, which they provide, and received course details. They have many different kinds of bicycles so you can join the tour even if you have no bicycle.

Enjoy dynamic city-scape of Tokyo from older districts to the heart of the financial districts and then the beautiful bayside towns. Tokyo’s vibrant cityscape is in a constant state of flux and renewal.

Leaving the office, the tour starts from the older districts, such as Kappa-bashi Dogu street. I went though these Japanese traditional streets into the heart of the financial district. I’d never thought that Tokyo’s vibrant cityscape is in a constant state of flux and renewal. I felt like I was in a completely different world. It was such a sensational experience.

The scenery changed so rapidly, We arrived at Tokyo station next. These changing environments made me so excited! Because it was such an amazing feeling as I flew through the air, I screamed unintentionally.
That feeling is not an exaggeration. Actually, cycling in Tokyo is more of an adventure than I thought. One more thing…it’s OK, to scream, Nobody notices it while we are riding.

After that, we had a break at Tokyo Station. Actually, I’d been here so may times but I felt unusual then because I arrived by bicycle. I wanted to tell someone I got there by bicycle. My heart was filled this kind of feeling.

Then it was time to go to the pier through Ginza and Shiba Park. On the way to the pier, Tokyo Tower came into sight. At that moment, I began to realize why I was feeling something special with the bicycle tour as I looked upon Tokyo Tower. I guess that bicycle had just the right sense of speed. The view point from the bicycle is about 100cm from the ground and it’s faster than walking but slower than moving in a car. This sense of speed directs some unusual moments.
Anyway, I arrived at Tokyo Tower while thinking such a thing.

I took some photos of the tower and then left for the pier. I had no idea that people can get to Odaiba by water-bus with their bicycles. We can see Rainbow Bridge both up close and also underneath as we travel past the bridge.

After we arrived in Odaiba, there was an unexpected coffee break in a park. Moreover, the tour guides boiled some water and milled some coffee beans for us there. I was entertained with really delicious and special coffee and I enjoyed drinking it at the harbor while viewing a beautiful sunset.

What’s this place that makes Tokyo go!?

In Odaiba, we went on a special cycling route down some back alleys. After a little while, I saw beautiful factory lights as well as a huge cargo ship resting at anchor.

The view was so glorious to admire. I had never thought that there could be a place like this in Odaiba…. Knowing what I know now thanks to the tour, I think I wasted time in Tokyo. Tokyo still has lots of thing I don’t know about.
After that, we had dinner at Diver-City then earnestly pedaled our bicycles to go to the final destination which has a 360 degree view of Tokyo’s city lights. Actually, the final destination was the top of the bridge. However this bridge has a long, long slope. I tried to go up but it was extremely hard…
My tour guides encouraged me on. They said, “The beautiful city lights are waiting for you on the top!!” It nearly killed me but I finally made it. Their shouts of encouragement saved me!

Finally, I could see the lights! These beautiful lights, such as factories, ships, and skyscrapers, were amazing to see.
Moreover, no other people were there. I had the lights completely to myself. It was kind of a strange feeling, like I was in the another dimension…or a blackhole.
After the final destination, we went back to Asakusa though Tsukiji and Ginza.

With your bicycle, experience a time warp through the ages.

After finishing the tour, I felt strange because I wanted to tell someone immediately about the fantastic experience I just had but had to keep it in my heart as a secret. It’s not enough to say I saw a different side of Tokyo. It was just like a dream which is a special experience. Yes, I can say I awoke up from a dream!
I strongly recommend joining their bicycle tour, especially the people who have been living in Tokyo for a long time.
Please experience yourself Tokyo’s time and generational traveling tour with a view point of 100 cm from the ground. Only then will you understand my feelings.

Handle was replaced.

Language:Chinese,Japanese

We have some drop handle bikes for our guests. If the guests are accustomed to riding a bicycle which is sports type, It won’t be a problem. However, some of them are not accustomed to. Sometimes they say they worry about if they can ride this kind of bike. So we decided we introduce some riser bar handle. Before we start, please check our original bike lineup.

Well, what is riser bar handle??

This is the handle which is more better controllability than drop handle. Actually, riser bar handle is not good at long distance touring, more important things are good controllability, because streets of Tokyo are complicated. Anyway, the eye position is also high, you can enjoy the city scape.

Now, Let’s show the changing process.

First of all, remove the handle from bicycle.

Because this riser bar handle is for mountain bike, so it has long width and good stability.

Cut the bar for adjust width. The roads of Tokyo are not so big, compact handle is better.

Polish the cut end with sandpaper.

Install the grip on the handle.
It’s done!

BTW, we chose blue and red, because these colors are CHARI YA TOKYO’s symbol colors.

It’s so stylish. Isn’t it?

Would you like to go on the tour by this bicycle?

Let’s make a reservation here↓↓

It’s a Brand new communication tool!

Language: Chinese,Japanese

Hi We are CHARI YA TOKYO.

We are running a cycling tour guide in Tokyo.

It doesn’t matter if you are foreigner or Japanese, traffic situation is very important for your safety, especially if you have a cycling tour.
Actually, it can’t say Japanese traffic situation is friendly to bicycle. Bicycle lane has been increasing nowadays, However it’s still not enough to solve these problems.

You can see Japanese bicycle lane situation.

We choose safe route as possible as we can for several participants but there is a case we have to choose the main street sometime and If the participants are more than 5 person, we are often split into two groups by traffic light.
We communicated on the radio for participant’s safety so far but this communication system has lot of problem, such as sound quality, communication distance and more so we didn’t satisfied with it.
When we need to find a solution, we met a epoch-making bluetooth communication device.
It’s called BONX!

Check their introduction video here.

features are:
①Maximum ten people can talk at the same time.*General radio can’t talk when another people is talking.
②If you got the app, you can talk no matter where you are.
Because it can talk through the mobile app so you can talk if you catch Wi-Fi. No matter where are you are.
③You can talk in handsfree. It can recognize you voice and turn on automatically when you say something. It’s good for bicycle!
④Hi-quality sound. It can hear everything clearly.
⑤Waterproof and viberation-resistant. It can use any weather situations.
⑥One push mute system. It can easy to turn mute mode. *It’s very important when you go to the restroom lol.

Well, we used this communication device in our latest event ride. There were 15 participants but it was totally good! We could improve our communication while we riding and make our tour more safe!
Well done BONX!

We have two more BONX for our guests so if the number of people was less than two, the guests can use them as well. * Please download the app in advance.

Please Join our tour and try BONX!

CHARI YA TOKYO’s bike line up

Language:Japanese,Chinese

We are based in Asakusa and run a cycling tour company for tourists from overseas.
For cycling tour, most important thing is

the bicycle.

I’d like to tell you about our bicycles today. By the way CHARI means bicycle in Japanese slang so I’ll call bicycle chari in this blog.

We lunched this business just 1 year ago. There are may cycling tours already in Tokyo so we had to create something different from them. Actually our tours visit many different places, famous and not famous, which may or may not be listed in guidebooks.

How about bicycles?
We were thinking that which bicycle should we buy when we start this business.
Our requests are Japanese product, perfect much with Tokyo street. and have a relationship with street culture.

And now,  Our answer is rockbikes.

This bicycle create beautiful and good value products and the point of us adopting this maker is to have these factors. Now we have a great relationship, they kind helped us and provide some bicycles for free. Thank you very much!!

Well now, let me introduce our chari.

MELANCHOLY

This is pist type. It became a popular style in San Francisco in 2007.
No gears, No brakes. This radical spirit influenced teenagers and street culture.

This kind of chari was created by massagers. They customized Japanese Keirin flame as a pist bikes. This MELANCHOLY was also influenced by these movement.

It has a beautiful geometry. Flame is made by chromium molybdenum steel. It has not only good strength and also lightweight and suppleness. Of cause it has brakes for safety. We have 6 for our guests.

Regular steering is drop type.

We also proved some flat type. This type drive more easier than drop type.

Looks like this.

We have 2 this type of bikes.
It strongly recommend to beginners and ladies.

And one more thing.
MELANCHOLY puts the rear brake under the pedal crank.

It makes beautiful look from the behind.

snappy cycle tour needs snappy chari!
However, thin tyre always has a range of puncture. Actually, it possible to have a puncture it the tyre was thick but next chari can reduce puncture risk.

GREED phase2

This is cross bike type. It can say progressive design in the cross bike category.
The flame is chromium molybdenum steel and designed old fashioned style. However it has oil pressure disk brake system. This chari blends the old and the new technology.

the tyre is 32c. It looks like a mountain bike. It makes comfortable when you over the gap on the street.

This oil pressure disk brake

can help your riding in the wet condition. This is the perfect chari for urban cycling.

Our chari looks difficult to ride at the first sight but we promise you that our chari makes your tour more comfortable and safety.
Please feel free to join and try to get on our chari.

Let’s find new Tokyo with
CHARI!!! Yeah!!! TOKYO!!!

? 3waybag Workshop RIDE Report

Language:Chinese,Japanese

It was so warm and springlike on March 28th. We hold the cycling event that 3WAY BAG WORKSHOP RIDE.
This is the report blog.

The participants came to our office at 8:30am and registered the event.
it was cold a bit but they red the event contract and signed it.

According the custom, we took a photo before the event start.
Well now, let’s go cycling!

We went along Kandagawa River.

Kept going…

It was so wonderful if the cherry blossom has come out, but it hasn’t. However, we were lucky to find the cherry blossom. It wasn’t in full bloom but enough beautiful.

We arrived at Futaba-en, where we learn about and create Japanese traditional dyeing.
By the way, they made unique parking sign for us. It was very surprised and thank you very much!

Time to dyeing workshop!

The craft man was so friendly, he kind enough teach us about the dyeing and their history.

We used these pigments. Because the cloth were quite dark, we picked up some vivid colors this time.

Everybody printed so carefully.

Let’s see their work now.

Everybody showed their originality.
So brilliant!

After painting work, make the pigments fix on the cloth by using special steam machine.

15minutes to complete!

Now, time to leave for Yoyogi.

We kept go along the riverside and stoped at Yoyogi Village for lunch.

There are some restaurants in the village but we had a curry-rise.

Such a novel color!
It was so nice actually.

After having lunch, we went to Repre bag making school for 2nd workshop.

We tried to make a 3way bag. First of all, we learned how to use the sowing machine.

They were working much seriously.

The cloth transformed into a bag gradually.

1way bag already.

It’s done!

Some participants use the bag already when we go back to Asakusa.

Here is the event video. Please check it out.

Please let me announce our next event.
We will try to dig up bamboo shoots and enjoy BBQ in Yokohama!!

CHARI YA TOKYO
